The Saint Donatus Foundation

The Saint Donatus Foundation, owner of the former dairy farm Sint Donatus located on the Hoornderweg in the village of Den Hoorn on Texel, is momentarily occupied with developing and studying (organic) cultivation of crops on saline soils. The cultivation of seakale is an example of such work (see: link to Research on salt-tolerant crops). In addition, the Saint Donatus Foundation is experimenting with small-scale sustainable techniques – dried, freeze-dried – to make salt-tolerant crops, including salicorn, sea aster and seakale, ready to use as a spice or a flavour enhancer for cooking. The Saint Donatus Foundation works closely during these projects with the VU University of Amsterdam, the University of Wageningen and the Province of North-Holland.

The Texelse Environmentally Friendly Nature Products B.V. is affiliated with the Saint Donatus Foundation. This company fabricates such items as organic cosmetics and foodstuff containing ingredients from the wadden region (such as seakale). Some of these products can be ordered via this website.
